5 Tips to Help You ‘Give Thanks’ in Style
Creating a Thanksgiving to remember is about more than just the Turkey and all of its dressings. With family and friends primed to gather for the big meal at your home, here are some chic ways to extend the Thanksgiving spirit throughout your home décor.
Welcoming Wreaths. Nothing says welcome like a seasonal wreath garnishing the front door of your home. Take a trip to your local craft store or even grocery store and stock up on the fixins’ to decorate an autumn wreath. Leaves in a wide array of fall colors create an ideal backdrop for real or artificial miniature pumpkins and gourds. Have the kids run around the yard and pick up acorns to add smaller details, wheat stalks, nuts and Native American corn husks make great additions, too. For a more formal wreath spray paint the pumpkins and gourds gold, and if a more kid-friendly wreath is more your style, add in craft projects from school, including hand-turkeys, pilgrims, and Indians. Customize your wreath to your family and home and let it reflect the reason for the season! Try out the Bulldog Hardware over the door hook for hanging your Thanksgiving wreath to avoid nail holes or peeling paint.
Seasonal Centerpieces. Before gathering with loved ones for your Thanksgiving meal, embellish your table with a seasonal centerpiece. A cornucopia full of pumpkins, squash, gourds, Native American corn, and fall fruits, such as apples and pears, makes for a striking traditional Thanksgiving centerpiece. For a less traditional option, experiment with floral arrangements using cattails, pheasant feathers, berry branches, and burgundy, orange, and yellow wildflowers. Hollowed out pumpkins can act as an unexpected vase or a pillar candleholder. Candles always add warmth to a table; just make sure there is plenty of distance between any foliage and the flame. Try to contain whatever centerpiece you choose to one area of an autumnal hued table runner, to leave room for all your epicurean delights, and to protect your table’s finish.
Homegrown Hand-Turkeys. Showcase your children’s hand-turkeys this Thanksgiving on the walls instead of on the refrigerator door. Inexpensive, “floating” picture frames cater to the irregular shape of kids’ elaborate cut-out hand-turkeys and allow the wall color to act as a mat for the art. Multiple hand-turkeys can be grouped together to create a festive collage. Your kids are sure to be thrilled to see their artwork on display while your blank wall space is filled with their homegrown creations. As the holiday season continues, hand-turkeys can easily be swapped out for new art projects. Use Bulldog’s Rubberized Picture Hanger and Picture Tabs to keep art secure, in place and level on the wall, even with kids running around proudly showing their ‘art’ to Grandma and Grandpa!
Mantel-Makeover. As the temperature outside gets cooler and the family gathers around the fireplace, consider decorating the mantel with a harvest medley. Garnish your fireplace mantel with a colorful fall leaves garland, woven with thick silk ribbon in warm fall shades. Bulldog Invisa Hangers mount securely and discretely under the mantel. Adorn the top of the mantel with several staggered-height glass hurricane vases. Try filling the vase with spice-scented pine cones and wedge your favorite pumpkin-smelling candle amongst the pine cone. Enjoy the look and smell of your classic mantelpiece throughout the Holiday season!
Deck the Walls. If you are looking to fill up any barren walls in the dining areas of your home, dust off your seasonal dish sets and try mounting a series of dishes or platters on the wall. If you already have a set of formal dishes in the dining room or kitchen, swap them out for a more seasonal solution. Try the elegant hanging technique of using a thick chocolate brown or pumpkin orange silk ribbon, topped with a bow, to mount your plates on the wall. Whether your autumn dishes are adorned with toile-style turkeys or freshly fallen leaves your home will feel warm, cozy, and perfectly suited for fall. To hang, use a Bulldog Hardware plate hanger.
